Lorne Park Spa and Salon was created in 2005 with the dream and concept of bringing quality services in an upscale environment but not at Yorkville prices. Nestled in one of the most prestigious neighbourhoods west of the downtown core, Lorne Park Spa and Salon has a special emphasis on skin care services, top European and American skin and hair products, and a modern approach to hair styling. Most importantly, its owners, Vessela Mihneva and Plamen Marinov, bring their top European skills, qualifications, and decades of experience to transform your overall well-being and the way you look and feel.

In the Beginning: Lorne Park Spa and Salon

Married for over 15 years, owners Vessela and Plamen work in perfect synchronization. In the beginning, Plamen Marinov began his interest in hairstyling while working in a circus as an acrobatic performer and dance artist. In an unfortunate incident, Plamen was injured and subsequently retired from his performing arts career. He then switched trades and began working his way “up-the-ladder” in various high-end salons in his home country of Bulgaria.

He met Vessela during his years as a senior hairstylist in one of the most prestigious hair salons in the country, including the salon within the prestigious Bulgarian Intercontinental Hotel Sofia. At the time, Vessela was avidly pursuing her dream of becoming a professional aesthetician. But for both of these young and determined professionals, Bulgaria seemed too small to fulfill their dreams.

They immigrated to Johannesburg, South Africa in search of worldly excitement and success. There, Vessela graduated from one of the top aesthetics schools in the country “The Johannesburg Institute of Beauty”. She specialized in natural skin care, being one of the first to study the importance of organic materials and ingredients for the skin. Plamen, on the other hand, continued his love of everything to do with hair: cutting, styling, colouring, and maintenance. Again, he successfully and quickly gained recognition throughout the hairstyling community leading to a coveted position in a high end salon. Here, he participated in numerous hairstyling contests where he won several awards.

Having heard from family friends about the potential business appeal of Canada, after a few years in Johannesburg Vessela and Plamen moved to Toronto, Canada, in search of a new home and the possibility of owning their own business together. They began working at the Eaton’s Centre and remained there until they felt comfortable and qualified to open their own combination of a salon and spa. Vessela took her love of aesthetics to the next level: she graduated with honours from the North American School of Podology (NASP) where she gained advanced practical and theoretical experience in foot care, particularly how to properly sanitize spa tools for the highest level of safety.

Certified by Health Canada, NASP taught Vessela how to spot potential diseases associated with foot health, especially for people who suffer from diabetes. Following her passion with natural and organic skin care, Vessela pursued higher learning through seminars and courses pertaining to green-technology, paraben-free products, nanotherapy (nanotechnology). She graduated from the Toronto School of Aesthetics with a medical background speciality. There she was professionally trained in the following: skin care, laser therapy, aromatherapy, massage, microdermabrasion, electrolysis, waxing, and threading. She’s also qualified as to treat speciality skin conditions such as acne and rosacea. She has also extensive knowledge of different skincare routines, products, and services pertaining to individual skin needs making her more qualified than your average aesthetician.

Hair Salon

In 2004, Vessela and Plamen finally fulfilled their lifelong dream of opening up their own hybrid Spa and Salon. They never imagined that they would achieve such success, yet with 15 years of experience, both Vessela and Plamen can truly be regarded as specialists in their area of expertise. Nowadays, at Lorne Park Spa and Salon Vessela and Plamen are busy providing quality services at competitive rates for their many clients.

Pedicure Chairs

The Spa is an extension of Vessela’s passion, where she combines the luxury and serenity of a spa with the results you can expect from a skincare doctor. Popular services include facials, body wraps, body treatments, manicures, and pedicures. She also carries popular high-end skincare products such as Dr. Baumann, Dermalogica, and Allpressan Foot Care products. As an added bonus, Vessela also carries a large variety of jewellery which is playfully displayed in the front entrance along with “Mineral Skin Care Makeup by Jane Iredale” – a professional line of mineral cosmetics designed to help keep your skin healthy. Her charm and love of all things skincare related make her the foremost expert on skinology in the area.

Treatment room

The Salon is where Plamen lets his entire creative energy do the work. It’s rare that a client isn’t considered a regular patron; most if not all of his clients have been flocking to the salon for years. He works on both men and women and uses only the highest quality products, most of which are L’Oreal Professionel. In his resume one of the best he has achieved, are the years he worked on and off stage as Ambassador for L’Oreal Professionel, also teaching product knowledge in the salons. He also carries the new and popular L’Oreal Professionel “INOA” which is an ammonia-free high-gloss and multidimensional hair colouring product. His years of experience coupled with his continuing pursuit of trends make Plamen a qualified expert in hairstyling and maintenance.
